Chinese Surfing Podcast: "Chàng Shuō Zhōngwén" (畅说中文) – Your Friendly Companion to Real Chinese
Welcome to the official page of the Chinese Surfing Podcast, where learning Mandarin meets real life, authentic culture, and genuine conversations. Whether you’re a busy professional, a self‑study enthusiast, an HSK warrior, or simply someone who loves China and wants to speak like a local – this podcast is for you.
“Chàng Shuō Zhōngwén” (畅说中文) means “freely and happily speaking Chinese.” It' s a light‑hearted, practical podcast designed for global Chinese learners. Every episode feels like chatting with a friend - no textbook stiffness, no boring drills. Just real stories, useful expressions, cultural insights, and a peek into the lives of Chinese teachers and students.
We believe that the best way to learn a language is to live it, laugh about it, and connect through it. That’s exactly what we do here.
Real conversations, not scripts - Everything you hear comes from actual teaching moments, everyday life in China, and questions asked by real learners.
Dual perspective - You' ll hear from both experienced Chinese teachers (what happens behind the scenes? how do we prepare lessons? what do we really think about our students?) and foreign students (their struggles, embarrassing mistakes, proud achievements, and cross‑cultural adventures).
Level‑friendly content - Each episode is clearly marked with key vocabulary. Beginners can pick up survival phrases, while advanced learners can dive into debates, dialects, and cultural tips.
Always useful & fun - Topics include:
- Daily survival Chinese (ordering takeout, seeing a doctor, giving gifts)
- Cool slang & internet buzzwords
- Regional dialects (Dongbei, Wuhan, Chongqing…)
- HSK preparation (including HSK 7-9 demystified)
- Teacher confessions (“What we really do after class”)
- Student stories (“How I embarrassed myself – and then aced HSK6”)
A bridge to Chinese culture - Language is more than words. We talk about Chinese festivals, food, social manners, family values, and even the subtle meaning behind “Nǐ chīle ma?”
- Adult learners (HSK 3 and above) who want to move from textbook Chinese to real‑world conversations.
- Business professionals who need practical, respectful, and natural Chinese for work.
- HSK exam takers looking for authentic listening materials and topic‑based vocabulary.
- Expats and students living in China – especially in Hangzhou – who want to understand local life, jokes, and cultural cues.
- Future Chinese teachers curious about how experienced instructors handle tricky moments in class.
> Many of our listeners are also Chinese Surfing students, but the podcast is completely free and open to anyone, anywhere.
We publish one episode every 2 weeks (approximately 15-30 minutes per episode). Perfect for your commute, coffee break, or evening relaxation.
